Frequently asked questions about dining room light fixtures

What color light is best for my dining room?

For dining room lamps of any kind, the best choice is white or warm white lighting to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Use warm lighting at 2700K–3000K for a cozy dining ambiance. This is best for dining room tables, buffet tables, or really just dining in general. If you choose a light that’s too bright, like blue or fluorescent lighting, your food may actually look less appetizing. If you’d like multiple lighting options, try a light that comes with a dimmer switch. Many of our lights come with dimmable bulbs that offer various brightness adjustment options to help you find just the right glow.

What size light do I need?

When choosing the size of your dining room light fixture, you'll typically want the light to be one-third to one-half the size of the dining table.

How far down should my light fixture be?

The ideal height for any overhead lighting fixture will vary based on your tastes, the type of aesthetic impact you're going for, and the space between the light and the kitchen island, dining table, or whatever surface you are illuminating.

The perfect location will also depend on the type of fixture. A lean, linear chandelier with a minimal design can hang much lower, whereas a fixture with hanging ornamentation, like a beaded chandelier, will likely need to hang a bit higher.

We understand that every situation is different. That's why we've cultivated this collection of versatile pieces. Our modern decor has many contemporary options that offer stunning visual impact and adjustable heights. It can be tailored to offer the ideal ambiance for dining.

If you're considering a low-hanging dining room light, make sure it's at least 30 inches from the table. This allows it to create that warm, cozy feeling without being in your way as you eat.
